Del Smith summed it up best this week at Mountain East Conference Media Day. A season ago, 20 conference games were decided by seven points or fewer. The 4-7 Bobcats played in six of those games, and lost four of them. Smith learned quickly just how competitive the MEC is in his first season as head coach. In his second season, he wants to make sure his team finishes games. 

Davisson Brothers Band Helps with Flood Relief Efforts

On July 28, eight counties in north central West Virginia were affected by flood waters. Mannington residents have pulled together to help each other. The Davisson Brothers Band hauled cases of water, provided by Urse Automotive, to Mannington to help with the relief efforts. Governor Justice May Call Another Special Legislative Session

Black Bears Split Doubleheader with State College

The Black Bears entered their Wednesday night doubleheader with State College trailing Mahoning Valley by a half-game in the Pinckney Division standings. A pair of wins in that twin bill would guarantee the Bears at least a share of the division lead before the end of the night. West Virginia didn't sweep the doubleheader, but it did get its share of first place in the division.
